What is Osteopathy

Osteopathy is a hands-on therapy. We use highly developed palpatation to diagnose and treat a variety of different conditions resulting from damage to various tissues, including nerves, tendons, muscles and joints.

The body is a very complex and clever system which can accommodate problems for a time but if left these will inevitably cause an imbalance and secondary problems. One of the main approaches of an Osteopath is to re-balance the body so that it functions to the best of its ability.

What to Expect

At Rushmere, we use an approach that includes both structural and a cranial elements. We believe that by being able to offer both treatment modalities, we give patients a more complete and holistic care approach.

Every patient is treated as an individual and a full case history is done to help assess the patient and to gain the most information so as to help make the most accurate diagnosis. Once this is achieved treatment will commence that is tailored specifically for the individual.

The consultation continues with an examination whereby you will be asked to undress. It is recommended that you bring appropriate clothing such as shorts for lower limb examination and sports bra/vest for upper limb examination. The examination will include active movements made by the patient, appropriate testing and palpation of the tissues.
